Steamer Trunk

If you want to travel light this piece is not for you. However, if you like to take your dressing room with you then a steamer trunk is perfect. Based on the Louis Vuitton trunks of the 1920’s and 30’s this piece gave an opportunity to apply the various skills that are integral to fine furniture making.

Form work to create the curved shape of the trunk body and cane ribs which protect the rich tweed covering. The leather work which envelopes the draws within the trunk is mitred so the meeting of the edges are barely perceivable. To keep as much unobstructed room within as possible we added turned finger pulls to the draws in ebonised oak.

The commission was taken from one of the most impeccably presented gentlemen I have ever met and I’m glad to say the trunk met his exacting standards.
