They really don’t make them like they used to. This poor old thing arrived at the True Bespoke workshop in a pretty sorry state it has to be said.

The cane weave was completely destroyed and we took the decision to re-upholster in leather for durability. It was important to find a hide that had enough grain detail and character so that the mix of old and new would marry without being an obvious later addition.

The key to any restoration is not to go too far. Lose the rust not the history. Having freed up all the moving components and reconditioned the existing wood work this old fella is now back in service.
